Nigerians are today struggling to come to terms with a revolting menace, the invasion of our land by pastors from the deepest part of hell. Generality of the masses are presently being held hostage by these obnoxious characters. They are taking undue advantage of people’s desperate need for fast solution to all sorts of problems to milk them dry. These problems that people seek solution to are as funny as they are serious, i.e., childlessness, unemployment, visa problem, need to get marry, poverty, protections against real or imaginary enemies mostly from the village. You name it, they are countless.
The modus operand of these pastors read like lines from the fraud book of our local tricksters. There is always a human obstacle behind all sorts of problems affecting us, and solutions by the so called men of God are not far fetched. Fasting and prayers for weeks, seed sowing, plus family liberation. All this solutions do not come cheap. It often takes the form of large cash donation or a car. For the family liberation, you must deposit a sum not less than N100, 000 before the deployment of men and material to your village to cast out the devil. Their sermons are always out of the ordinary, and they are smart to lift only materials that suit their kind of preaching “prosperity” from the bible.
They are also good at using scare strategies and arranged fake miracles to get their gullible members to part with their cash. They are good at using phrases like;” you are robbing God, that is why you are not married or poor”. “If you give God small money, you will receive small gift” My God is not a poor God” Deliverance is not cheap” “Receive your car now” Non of you will die this year” “You will all get married this year” “No member of this church will have a police case” on and on goes the deceptive words.
People must be careful whom they disclose their problems to; they might be agents of some pastors somewhere. They have caused enough havoc in the society pitting family members against one another by their false prophesy examples of these havocs abound. A girl was wickedly counseled to leave the fiancée, that quote “he is not her husband”, not knowing that the pastor was interested in her. He later dumped her after using her. A grandmother was accused of witchcraft through the prophecy of a pastor and she was abandoned by her children, leading to her death. What about the accountant that was brainwashed, he then stole his company’s money to buy a generator and a bus to fulfill the prediction of his pastor, he was later sacked and jailed.
It is time government acted to save it’s citizenry from the menace of these pastors.
Government can check the alarming growth of these satanic churches by taxing them greatly. A ban should be placed on them by government from operating in residential areas. The Christian Association of Nigeria has a role to play here; they must put in place a regulatory body to check the activities of these so called men of God. The problems people are running to these fake pastors for solutions might be self Inflicted problems. People must check their activities and behavior to see if it conforms to God’s laws.
In as much we are not totally condemning all churches and pastors, the Lord Jesus Christ, whom we all claim to be following was an embodiment of humility, selfless sacrifice and love during the short time he spent on earth. He never solicited or took any gift or money from people for all the healing and deliverance he gave them. The missionaries that brought the gospel of Christ to us, am sure did not envisage the degenerate level we have taken it to. What we need are industries to employ our teeming unemployed youths not this present proliferation of churches. God’s gifts are free of charge for those that truly believe.
